“The managers of the property switched me to a different room, however they told me about 48 hours in advance (which gave me plenty of time) with a thorough explanation, as they placed me into a better room. It was all smooth sailing. Furthermore, they explained the check-in process in detail, which helped me out of a jam as I arrived later than expected. Nevertheless, they were kind and accommodating. If you’re on a cross country road-trip looking to crash for the night, then look no further if you happen to be in Southern Illinois. You get a lot bang for your buck. These hosts have it down to a science!”

Along the south eastern border of Illinois, flows the majestic Ohio River. Over the centuries, the Ohio has silently carved the limestone bluffs that line the shores of the scenic Shawnee area into some of the most beautiful and visited tourist attractions in Southern Illinois.
Among these attractions stands the historic cavern of Cave In Rock State Park. Acquired by the State of Illinois in 1929, the popular cavern is located in the village of Cave In Rock . Burrowed out by the winds and water of time, the white limestone shines out along the shoreline of the Ohio with an array of flora and fauna. Each year thousands of visitors, both from across the US and the local area, walk the gravel trail down to the Ohio’s edge and stand in awe of the massive opening leading into the mouth of the limestone cathedral.
Hike in from the trailhead and follow the creek bed to the top of the waterfall, then around the “dog leg,” and arrive at the bottom of the falls for a magnificent view of the waterfall’s vertical bluffs, and inviting pool. To kick your hiking adventure up a notch, tie up at the top of Jackson Falls and rappel in! Please avoid disturbing the fragile plant life on the rock walls to preserve the natural ecosystem of the falls.
